Heading to Edmonton for the Northwest Dental Exposition 2024: 3 Must-Try Restaurants

Other posts by

We’re gearing up for an exciting weekend at the Northwest Dental Exposition (NWDE) 2024 in Edmonton, and we can’t wait to meet you all! Mark your calendars for September 13, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (MDT) at the Edmonton Convention Centre. Progressive Edge Dental Hygiene will be at booth S4, and we’re thrilled to be part of this incredible conference.

NWDE 2024 is a conference-style event that brings together around 1,000 attendees, including dentists, dental hygienists, assistants, denturists, and other dental professionals. With multiple exhibitors and lectures running simultaneously, you’re sure to leave inspired and informed. Breakfast, lunch, and other refreshments will be available throughout the day, making it the perfect environment to network, learn, and grow in your profession.

While we’re there, we’re also planning to explore some of the best culinary experiences Edmonton has to offer. If you’re joining us at the conference, we’ve got three must-try restaurants that should be on your radar!

1. Woodwork – A Passion for Wood-Fired Cooking and Barrel-Aged Spirits

One of Edmonton’s top dining spots, Woodwork is a restaurant that masterfully combines wood-fired cooking with an impressive selection of barrel-aged spirits. Located downtown in the historic McLeod Building on 100 Street & Rice Howard Way, this restaurant has been a local favorite since it opened in 2013.

What makes Woodwork stand out is its custom-built Grillworks wood-fired grill, which gives their dishes a distinct smoky flavor. Whether you’re craving expertly grilled meats, seafood, or vegetables, their menu is designed to showcase the best of wood-fired cuisine.

We’re particularly excited to try their charred hanger steak, paired with their famous buttermilk mashed potatoes and bone marrow béarnaise. To top it off, Woodwork has one of Alberta’s most extensive collections of spirits. Their bar menu features award-winning cocktails like the Honey Old Fashioned, as well as a curated list of wines that perfectly complement the grilled dishes.

If you’re looking to experience the true essence of Edmonton’s vibrant dining scene, Woodwork is a must-visit.

2. District 102 – Where History Meets Modern Comfort

For a dining experience that blends Edmonton’s rich history with modern culinary delights, we’re heading to District 102. Nestled in the heart of Edmonton’s historic warehouse district, this restaurant offers more than just great food – it’s a journey through time. The name “District 102” is inspired by its unique location, near the Ice District, and it also pays homage to the historic Blatchford Field Airport, Canada’s first licensed airfield.

But it’s not just the history that makes District 102 stand out. The restaurant’s warm, aviation-inspired atmosphere is the perfect backdrop to the culinary creations of Chef Lovelyn Turner. Originally from the Philippines, Chef Lovelyn’s dishes are infused with love and attention to detail. Her culinary journey has taken her from family kitchens to luxurious hotels in Dubai, and now she’s bringing that wealth of experience to Edmonton.

The dish we’re eager to try? The Filipino-style beef short ribs, slow-cooked to perfection and served with a savory glaze that promises to melt in your mouth. And, if you’re feeling adventurous, their aviation-themed cocktails are the perfect way to wind down after a long day at the conference.

3. The Moth Cafe – A Creative, Plant-Based Oasis

Looking for something a little different? For plant-based enthusiasts or anyone who loves innovative, healthy dishes, The Moth Cafe is the place to be. Open since December 2017, this family-owned gem has become a go-to spot for nutritious food, creative drinks, and community events like plant swaps, craft workshops, and even vinyl brunches.

At The Moth, the focus is on providing delicious, plant-based meals that nourish both the body and soul. Their menu includes everything from vegan burgers and plant-based bowls to refreshing smoothies and health-conscious desserts. We’re particularly excited to try their Pumpkin Sage Soup, a seasonal favorite that’s sure to warm you up after a day at the conference. Pair it with their famous Lavender London Fog, and you’ve got the perfect cozy meal.

Whether you’re looking for a light lunch or a more substantial dinner, The Moth Cafe offers a creative twist on healthy eating that will leave you feeling satisfied and inspired.
